I have used so many different softwares to work on, but I haven’t found anything better than Open Office. It is lightweight, clean and capable of handling all tasks that Microsoft Office does. It doesn’t run on as much ram as Microsoft Office and it doesn’t require $300.00 or more, you can get it at sun microsystems website. The core of Open Office is Java runtime environment which is smooth, clean and a great environment to work in.

The Open Office Writer feature can do so many things. It can handle any task in doc, rtf, ascii, and other text documents. You can embed files inside of the document just like with Microsoft Word. The text document feature also handles other document types from other software such as star office which is cousin to Open Office. In this text document feature, you can also export your file to pdf form right from the top toolbar which makes life a little easier if you are a writer.

If you are planning on creating a website, Open Office has platforms for that as well. Microsoft Windows comes with auto pilot and drag and drop features that have plain english directions to get you going in  building your own website from scratch easily for free. Just simply start a new document and add all those things that you would like to have in a website or page and you are finished in no time.

The powerpoint presentation feature gives you a free and easy environment to create your own presentations whether for  yourself and family or your company. You can work from a template easily no matter what version of OpenOffice you use.  you can click to view the presentation from the menu at the top of your editing selections. The software is free and easy to use for even for an 11 year old to use so people of all ages can click and create their own documents.

You can find Open Office at  http://www.openoffice.org. Openoffice is made by Sun Microsystems so you are getting high quality software at no cost whatsoever, just the time to install it, use and enjoy it.  It doesn’t take up no more than 500mb to use on your hard drive, so it can be used on large hard drives to even as small as 4 gigs.  This software was used on a 1 gb Gateway 2000 and worked as well as a Dell Inspiron B130.
